Bonjour,

Hunter, much thanks for recommending George Chesbro's works on the McCammon website. If not for you, I never would've come across the wonderful character that is Mongo. In fact, the character delighted me so much that I named my cat after him! George... Please, more Mongo!!!

I just finished reading the last Mongo book translated in French, Bleeding In the Eye of a Brainstorm. It's, as always, so much fun and much more exciting and well written than many self-priding American best-sellers we had recently. I see only one Mongo adventure remains to be published here, a book dating 8 years ago. I wonder if the series has defitively ended ? PLEASE, Mr Chesbo...

Between my mother and I we must have at least 3 copies of every one
of Chesbro's novels, (with the exception of King's Gambit, the only one
we haven't as yet found a copy of), and that is quite a feat since they
are hard to find in the Northwest. We got hooked back in '83, and we
haven't been able to stop reading them. Sometimes I don't think I
could have made it through my teenage years without my book heroes,
particularly Mongo the Magnificent. I am so glad to see them going
into print again. Please keep writing, Mr. Chesbro!!!

Big fan of all your Mongo books and that you have the guts to
question "the extreme right" in your books. Haven't read any new one
or seen one in years so I thought I would search to see if if you had a

Thanks for keeping George Chesbro in print. My parents read all his
books and turned me on to him - back in the 1970's. (I think my father
first read about him in Playboy magazine). My mother is in her 70's
now and gets excited whenever she hears about a new Chesbro book (which
I purchase and send to her to read - after I read it - with the STRICT
understanding the book must be returned). I just received the
hardcover of Prism (and just finished reading The Keeper - both were my
Mother's Day gifts) and I look forward to many more installments of
Prism. Thanks again.

My son's nickname is Mongo and about a year ago I was searching eBay
for a T-shirt or something with that name on it for his birthday. Lo
and behold, a couple of Mongo books came up in the dragnet. I bought my
first Mongo because of the cover artwork and because it was fairly
inexpensive. My son never got the book, and my Mongo purchases have
multiplied. Mr. Chesbro, you sure can write!

A bookseller turned me on to the novels after asking me if I was
related...sorry to say, I don't know Mr. Chesbro, though it is my
opinion that he brings honor to our name! I have been a fan and have
enjoyed the Chesbro books for years, though they are never available
locally...though I've asked. Hope to see them in bookstores near me in
the future.

Nearly 20 years ago I accidentall picked up a book titled "Beasts of
Valhalla" with a perfectly dreadful cover - and to date it's my
favourite fantasy/book/mystery whatever! I've been in love with Mongo
and Garth ever since and have read all the books *so* often, purchasing
newer copies when I can. Like I said, I love the characters of Mongo
and Garth. Having said that...when will Mr. Chesbro be writing
another. You don't find terrific novels featuring empathetic, wonderful
*male* characters anymore. I'm so *so* tired of female detectives/cops
etc. so I was disheartened after reading "Keeper." Mr. Chesbro's jumped
on the female novel bandwagon..so it seems. (I'm a 42 year old female
reader of all genre, always seeking books featuring male buddy themes -
naturally Mongo and Garth are on my Top 10 list of all time. No more
Keeper..more Mongo. Um...please!!!?

I've always been pleased to find books by my favorite authors, but back

I was introduced to Mongo by the man who was my manager when I first
started selling "on th road" in 1985. Mongo kept me company through
many long nights in strange hotels. I'm still on the road and I'm
delighted to find a siye dedicated to Geo. Chesbro. George's series is
one of the few I've kept over the years, alongside Van der Wetering,
Llewellyn and Kaminsky. All of them crafters of unique characters.

Hi, my name is Michaele Chesbro, and I am George's daughter.
I thought it would be interesting to check out this website
about my dad. As it turned out, it was very well put
together and very informative. And what a unique touch to
be able to hear my father's voice in the opening. Hats off
to the sharp person who came up with that idea.
As most of you folks are aware, my dad is an exceptional
writer. My brother, Mark, and I are very proud of him.
I am very pleased to see there are as many people out there,
as there are, who feel the same way about my dad's work.
I understand that there are a few more websites about him
that I think I'll check out. Perhaps later I'll have some
comments on these sites as well.
Nice to meet everybody, and keep on reading Mongo and the
rest of George's novels.
Thanks so much for your loyalty to the Mongo mysteries.

I am a physician, and one day on call about 6 or 7 years ago I went
into a call room (that's what you do when you are an obstetrician and
waiting for somebody to have a baby), and found a copy of Beasts of
Valhalla that somebody else had left there. OHMIGOD!!! I have always
been a sci-fi junky, and I love mysteries, and this was the best of all
possible worlds. Since then, every time I am in a used book store I
have scoured the shelves for Mongo books, and anything else by Mr.
Chesbro. I even put my sister, who lives in Chicago, on to his work,
and she has found me several titles I could not get here in Akron.
Now, I find that the Mongo books are back in print, and I am overjoyed.
I have a 13-year-old son who, I am sure, will become a Mongo fan just
as his mother is. (My 18-year-old daughter likes Leslie Glass and the
Kellermans, she isn't into fantasy-mystery like I am). I have spent an
hour trying to find this web-site, and came upon it accidently, and I
am really happy to be here. Looking forward to seeing more of Garth,

George and I have known each other for almost ten years. He
just keeps getting stranger and stranger (and his books
reflect this).
I am happy to announce that I have an interview with him
that is sitting on tape waiting to be transcribed (if anyone
out there has secretarial skills I need a transcriber, no
money, but you get a tape of the interview and lots of
credit on the page). It is heavy duty and is sure to make
you think (and no, it wasn't just the peach schnapps he and
Robin were feeding me).
However, don't let the fact that the interview isn't up yet
stop you from coming by. We also have a marvelous
conversation with Mr. Frank Laloggia the writer-director-
producer, (and what the heck, he acts in it of) "The Lady
in White as well as "Mother" and "Fear No Evil"
Anyway, good job on the page and keep spreading the word.

Reading 'em in order. On my way to "Cold Smell...". Please no give
away info. Can't wait to hear about it from Mongo directly. Mr.
Chesbro, Bless you sir. In a world of one rehashed story after another
you have the guts to wander from the beaten path. Twenty pages into
"Shadow.." I was hooked. Tell Mongo I'll be on the look out for him.

Wooo Hooo, a Chesbro site :) I first got into him when I was in my early teens
when I picked up An affair of sorcerers on a whim and was instantly hooked. I
have read all of the books repeatedly except for the Chant books which I have
never been able to find (but the search goes on). It's great to have found this
site, nice job !! I was unaware of some of the short stories you have listed,
thanks !! Please update (or email me) if there is something we can do to try
and get more of his stuff published, because I want more :) Joe

I also got hooked on Mongo through a friend of mine, it was
a nice surprise to find this sight with all it's information.
You've done a great job Hunter, thanks for taking the time.

Great to see other Mongo fans online! Got introduced to the series
by and Australian friend of mine with Shadow of a Broken Man.
Have managed to get paperback copies of the David Cross books, and I wore
out my firt copy of the Beats of Valhalla from endless readings.
